Post-Hurricane Needs
This is an email sent to me from my best friend in Atlanta about her family who were evacuated from the New Orleans/Slidell area..... I spent last weekend with this crew while visiting in Atlanta, they had come up to stay with my friend Maria because they had nowhere else to go. We all spent the weekend together having fun and trying to forget about the past week's events, I've made three new friends and wish the best for them always. Let me know if you want to help....
Some of you have asked how you could help my
family so I asked the crew what they want, and we
think gift cards would be the best thing.
Anything from Drugstores, Grocery stores, Target,
whatever. This way they can go and pick up what
they need while they live with me. Food,
toiletries, clothing, etc.
Tanya (my step-sister) isn’t wanting to get a lot
of clothing right now because she’s flying to
Chicago on Saturday night and doesn’t want to
have to carry a lot of stuff on the plane. Her
fiance is in Europe and will be coming back to
the states on Sunday. They will live with their
friends in Chicago until things get settled in
New Orleans. We are pretty sure she lost
everything in her apartment in New Orleans. Her
apartment was near the levee that was repaired
yesterday.
My Dad was able to go back to Slidell over the
weekend to check out the house and my brothers
place. Chris lost all his furniture and the most
of everything else. Chris will probably be
staying with me for at least a month. He’ll be
working from my apartment until his company sets
up a temporary office somewhere. If they can set
up accommodations for everyone, he might leave to
go there.
Dave has decided he’s going to stay in Atlanta
for awhile. He started working at Houston’s on
Lenox yesterday and is going to be doing a lot of
double shifts this week. He was living with my
sister temporarily until he could to move into an
apt. in New Orleans with a room mate on the 1st
of Sept. A lot of his stuff was in storage or at
his mom’s place and we aren’t sure what of his
stuff is damaged. He’s talking about getting an
apartment of his own soon.
My parents are now in a hotel in Jackson. They
are doing ok. My dad spent all day yesterday at
the house in slidell cleaning up the yard,
getting trees off the roof, patching a few small
areas in the roof. He finished the clean up
yesterday and won't be going back until they turn
on the power which will probably take a few
weeks. They are waiting for my step-mom’s company
to set up their temp office and accommodations
for the staff so they can head there. My dad will
follow my step-mom because he can work anywhere
as long as there is an internet connection.
My family isn’t as bad off as a lot of people.
They did lose a lot of stuff that needs
replacing. But it would probably be easiest if
they just get gc’s so they can go out and get
what they need when they need it while they are
staying with me. Thanks for in advance for
everything and anything you can do to help.
