a quiet evening in lawrence ks...
Tonight we're spending the evening in Lawrence. However, I fear I will be bored to tears, then again there should be enough alcohol around to keep myself at least entertained. Walter will be blowing off steam from a hard semester of engineering courses with one of his co-workers and his wife who also is working on her engineering graduate degree. They are quite fun people for a couple that are both engineers. So, I'll be spending the evening with three "mathletes" as I like to call them. Now, if you know me well and that i'm a very creative person, you might see why I'll be insanely bored.
We'll be starting off our adventure at El Mezcal for dinner (hold on to your pocket protectors, it gets even more exciting!) then it's off to the fantastic Red Lyon Tavern (from what I hear is where all the engineering crowd hangs out). They even offer free WiFi there, for those mathletes that must be working and doing calculations while enjoying a frosty beverage.... Damn, if I only had an iBook to keep me entertained!
I'm sure it won't be that bad.... RIGHT?!?
UPDATE-
I did a quick Google search on the Red Lyon Tavern and it actually sounds much better than I had imagined... My original vision coming from a couple of engineers, of which creative descriptions happen to be something they are not very good at.
This is the description I found via www.lawrence.com-
A tavern with 'tude, the Lyon is something like a warm euro-style pub, but more spacious, better lit and without any dank wood work. Always clean and lined out with amenities like board games, darts, pool, and free popcorn. If you're getting slow service, take time to take in the sign above the bar: "Please don't tell anyone about the Lyon. We have no time for strangers. Remember it's your seat."
However, I am still concerned about the part that it's an engineering dept. hangout... Will I be overhearing a good chortle about physics, statics and dynamics, hydrology, or concrete post-tensioning? Because I already hear enough about that at home, and there I can just go to bed or change the channel when I'm bored.
