Mmmmmm Waffle House!
Since yesterday, I haven't been able to stop thinking about the yummy greasy flavors of Waffle House.... My good friend Steak inspired me to open the topic up for discussion.... Who doesn't love WH? What kind of experiences have you had there? BTW- Steak, I need details!
For me, I'm not sure if they are fond memories or not, but they are memories just the same of the grand WH that sits in my hometown! At WH was the first time I saw Walter not all cool and skater-dude.... He was standing there in the white with black stripes short sleeved shirt with shoulder straps reminicent of a Member's Only jacket, black polyester pants and that gorgeous dark long hair was shoved into that cute WH paper hat. Yep, in high school Walter bought me dating trinkets of love with a paycheck from WH. I spent many hours sitting at the high counter chit chatting with the regulars, and making it known to the new waitresses that he was mine. I didn't have to say much to them, they knew that Walter had something special that a WT girl making her CAREER at the WH that he was too good for them. This of course was not his choice of places to work, but they paid him a lot, and he learned quickly to make deals with the management for money under the table to cover another shift for some bum that was too drunk to come in. Through high school and paid for his first two years of college working for WH, they were all so proud of him for getting the education they never did....
Oh the adventures! I saw so many kids from school drunk and stoned, I can't even count them all.... One of my childhood friends was so wasted in the WH parking lot that he kept falling out of the passenger seat of his truck. Thank goodness he wasn't trying to drive. Then again, on a typical day he had no problem driving through town with an open can of Busch Beer in his hand, waving hello from his big hoss truck. Anyway, his friends finally managed to get him in the building when he had to come right back out to throw up.... This was a normal Saturday night.... Ugh!
I hate to admit, we got engaged at the WH... We were both home for the weekend from college, and he would pick up hours while he was home for extra cash. We were talking (he was waiting for a waffle to cook) and we both agreed we had been dating for a long time (5 years at that point) and it was like - Hey, we've been dating a long time, wanna get married? I said OK, the next weekend we drove home and I picked out a ring. The part I remember as being funny (because i'm a snob), was one of the waitresses said, you should have him get you a nice pear shaped diamond, I've always wanted one of those.... I think they have them at WalMart...... Like I said the next weekend we drove home, and made an appointment for Michael Genovese Diamond and Estate Brokers in Creve Coeur, MO and I picked out a gorgeous estate piece for my left hand.... It's a one of a kind hand-carved platinum band with 5 princess cut diamonds... Not exactly from WalMart, gosh I am a brat!
Needless to say, I'm still waiting for a real proposal.... A romantic one like on the scoreboard at a Cardinals or Blues game, ok so that's not really romantic, but it's better than- Hey, wanna get married at a Waffle House! ;o)
