i love technology, but not as much as blog
I spent this weekend teaching my mom the oh, so difficult Mac OS 9.2. She is afraid of anything that has buttons.... Needless to say it can be quite entertaining watching her fiddle with the remotes for the home theater system. Anyway, I found a great deal on a used G3 iMac on the company want ads so I figured what a perfect way to teach my mom to use a computer. She of course is terrified of my dad's pee cee. Who wouldn't be, they suck?
I took it home this weekend and got it all set up for her, I really had to do some mental digging to remember Remote Access and setting up the iMac for dial-up. That's right, dial-up. They sold our big nice house and moved to the middle of nowhere when I got married.... So, I'm stuck in the land of dial-up when I go home to visit. I usually don't even bother..... This weekend, I had no choice! It was really a blast working with OS 9 again, but eventually I'll add more RAM and install Tiger on there, that is once she's comfortable with the little blueberry bubble with buttons.
She leaned over to me while I was working and showing her how to use (gasp) the yoyo mouse and whispered- This isn't nearly as scary as that- pointing to the pee cee. She's such a cutie! I won't be saying that for very long knowing she'll be calling me all the time because she can't remember how to quit out of an application! But for right now, it's so cool to see her so eager to learn her new tool to use the internet and email....
