defense
i already grow tired of defending myself on why we're going to buy the new apple iPhone... obviously everyone has differing opinions and thoughts of the new product and that's great, that's what capitalism is for. different people need different things! i guess i should say why i want the phone instead of just being giddy excited with proclamations of future ownership and looking like a gadget queen, just looking to snatch up the latest and greatest toy.
the truth is, i have been looking at "smartphones" anyway for when it's time for the phone upgrade and i upgrade every two years. in particular the samsung blackjack because it's slim and does the job. the RAZR is great for calls, and fine for the camera and fine for SMS messaging. but i need more than that... the internet on the RAZR is just pathetic and slow. although, i will say my RAZR has been awesome as far as durability! in the work i do on the side, i'm constantly looking up addresses on google maps and printing them out, now i'll have it in the palm of my hand without an added GPS device that i've also been heavily researching. it's everything i've wanted in a phone with an easy interface of Mac OS X and no buttons, and syncs to all my desktop apps on my Macs! and WiFi, for real that's just handy!
there's so many bonuses that we all know from reading/watching the keynote that i won't go into. except for the added bonus of the integrated iPod. i'm not looking for an iPod replacement, i'm perfectly happy with my 30GB video capable one. i also wasn't looking to replace my 20GB iPod Photo (of which is still use at the gym), i just was offered a deal that i couldn't pass up on the 30GB one! the iPhone has the added bonus to be a music and video player as well, and that's awesome. i'm not getting rid of my black iPod, i'll still use it... be it in the car or at work for added music variety. for some people the iPhone is not the right product, but for me it's a perfect fit.

please don't cry. it's not your fault i'm just old fashioned. i like my phone to make calls. I like my camera to take nice pictures. i like the directions to wherever i'm going to be printed out nice and big so i can clearly read what it says when i glance down while i'm driving because i don't like staring at that tiny screen on the gps. and i like my mini to play my music. i'm sure i'll want to play with yours when you get it, but its still not for me.
My only word of caution is something you already know: it takes Apple at least three versions of a product before they get it working right.
that's what variety is all about... nothing is for EVERYONE. i still love all my things individually as well, but i'm all about making my life easier. i use macs at work, i use them at home why wouldn't i want seamless integration with my phone too? it has everything i use on my macs for daily life and nothing i don't. it's all for me and my husband, because he doesn't get excited about much, and he's really stoked about this too.
true steazy... but you know me, i'll just let the genius' fix it for me! go applecare!
I don't care what you buy, and you really don't need to defend your purchase.
I didn't mean any offense to you with the Steve Jobs comment. I made it in jest and thought it was kinda funny since you were listing all those Apple things you own, but I see that it wasn't taken as funny...so I'm sorry for that.
Of course, you did open your iPhone post with a Zune joke, and seeing as how you know I own one I took that as an open invitation to retort. If this was supposed to be a closed topic I didn't know, but honestly...what fun is there in a one sided conversation? I mean, we could all sit around and just talk about how great the iPhone is, but I think it's nice to hear other opinions.
Above all though, if you want it you will buy it, and I never said you shouldn't. Likewise, even though I've read countless Apple fan sites that continually bash the Zune - I didn't let that stop me from buying one.

it's fine.
If that's exactly what you need, it's cool. Sara, even if you did just want the latest and greatest toy, that's cool too. No defense needed!
I love new gadgets too, the iPhone is fantastic. Me personally, I have a hard time dropping that much cash on a phone, when like maria, I use my phone as a phone. (Plus we just hired a financial advisor - he'd probably hit me on the head.) But like I said yesterday I'd still love to get one later when the price drops and maybe a newer (can it be possible?..) cooler version, even though I may only use it for phone calls and the occassional show-off to friends. :P (((iHugs)))
i was just feeling a bit attacked from several people, i'm fine now, but i wanted to express my thoughts. that it was something i was going to get anyway be it an iPhone or a blackjack. it's going to fit great into my lifestyle! i can't wait!!! my financial advisor is all for it as long as we have the avail. cash to do it w/o dipping into savings. and if you know walter, that DOESN'T happen. thanks for the hugs! ;oP
