tiny kitty update

i dropped princess off at the vet today before work for her follow up appt. and grooming. i just called to she how she was doing...

the results of blood work to see if her liver enzyme levels have improved and make sure if nothing seriously is wrong with her will be back tomorrow so i'll know more about that then... but i have to say i feel a lot better about the situation. she's been taking two kinds of antibiotics and prednisone for therapy for the last two weeks as well as eating special high calorie food. it all seems to be helping... she's been feeling much better and her eyes aren't jaundice anymore. she also seems to be gaining weight back. although, i don't know if the therapy is the cure of an infection or just making the symptoms better of something more serious. but i asked the vet tech if they had weighed her yet and she's gained a pound in the last two weeks (i knew i wasn't crazy for thinking she was not as bony), and that takes a huge (no pun intended) weight off my shoulders.

sorry dood-

i got spammed hard on my comments awhile back so i had to set up the verification... sucks, i know.

a pound is a huge deal, that's why i feel so relieved at the moment, hopefully she'll be all better when the results come back.

i'm sitting on hold with the vet's office right now...

ok- turns out some of her levels are better and some are worse... the vet thinks that the problem is an inflammation in the duct system of her liver. she said it usually takes awhile to clear up. so she's keeping her on the prednisone and starting her on a new med... she's gonna call me back later today with more information of diagnosis and treatment details...

next update-

she said it can take months to clear up and they're putting her back on everything she was on when she first got sick and another one. so she'll be on 4 meds, two antibiotics, a steriod and a med for bile. ew. anyway... i also asked about the UTI she had when i had taken her in the first time if it was related to this liver disease and she said it absolutely was. she's going to need to be tested again, but she said since she's stable that we can prolly go a month this time. so far that's the dish....

poor thing. she has to take a pill for bile...hopefully in a month everything will clear up. how do you get her to take her pills?

one antibiotic is liquid so i squirt it in her mouth... the second is a pill they told me to dissolve in 1cc of water and squirt... the prednisone is a pill and i grind that up and hide it in her high calorie food. and the last one they said is a liquid and they asked me what flavor she'd like- chicken or beef. so i'm pretty lucky that i don't have to get her to swallow a pill in this situation. but i do have administer it all several times a day.

when i do have to give her a pill that i can't grind up, i have walter hold her and her mouth open... then we rub her throat to get her to swallow. it's a HUGE pain.

Aw poor kitty must be wondering why she's being tortured with medicines. i hope the meds keep her happy and healthy!
