Mets Are Pond Scum
Sometime in the early '80s, the Cardinals were playing a home stand against the hated New York Mets. A KSHE DJ referred to the visiting team as "pond scum," and the name stuck. Five words. Five syllables. One unmistakable meaning: The Mets Are Pond Scum!
Remind everyone that the Mets are indeed nothing but pond scum- it’s St Louis’ most fun and original taunt! Help Redbirds win the NLCS and take us to the World Series! Now is the time! GO CARDS!!!
Cardinals fans began referring to the Mets as "pond scum" during a late-season series at Busch Stadium back in 1985, but it looks like that old term of endearment has been dusted off for this week's visit to St. Louis. Across from the new Busch, a dilapidated warehouse -- in the process of being turned into pricey lofts -- is sporting a banner that reads "Anybody Smell Pond Scum?"
the original t-shirt design from the 80's. o the memories, and i've never stopped referring to the Mets as "pond scum".
